Reflections Of Doom # 5

Old School Doom ... when a band describes it`s music that way, you have a good indication about what it is all about. And Germanys Dreaming plays Old School Doom. Heavily influenced by the likes of Vitus, Cream and Sabbath, the band got together in the middle of `93. After gigging with bands like Dawn Of Winter, Naevus and Mirror Of Deception, they recorded their first Demo during December '94. To be honest, it`s not the best tape to come out of Germany - The sound quality isn't that good and it's obvious that it's been in a bit of a hurry, but it does find it`s way into my tape deck very often. Bassist Thomas was the one who got to answer my sometimes a bit critical questions…

The demo has been available for a while now, do you have any idea on how many copies are sold so far? And how have the reactions been?

At the moment - September `95 - we've sold 100 copies and I have personally send out between 30 and 50 Promo Tapes to magazines all around the world. The biggest part of the reactions were good, most told us that we reminded them at Vitus and that`s a big compliment for me. But there are also critical letters because of the voice and sound, that it could be better.

The Demo was done on a 4-track which resulted in a, although clear, sound which could have been better. All a matter of money I guess?

One of the reasons is, of course, the money. But I don't think we shouldn't spend too much money on it, cause we're not good enough yet for a real studio recording. And … just listen to the first Vitus - Lp, that sound isn't that much better, so we have a real cult sound, hahaha …

You got me there. But please tell me something more about the Demos title: "Smirten Prøben". What the hell does it mean and why this exact title?

"Smirten Prøben" was a mighty warrior, he rides on his dragon ship through the waves of an ancient black ocean. There were no sun, no moon and no stars. Just darkness. After a long ride he saw a light, it was the lamp of a pub. He went inside and started drinking beer, beer, and beer … and if he isn't dead or puking he's still drinking there now. Our drummer found the title on a comic book on which a bird says "Smirten Prøben Pelben", it sounds Nordic, like True Norse Black Metal, so it's a joke.

Personally I wasn't so impressed with the "People Love Him" Track, it is cool to see you try and use some humor in the lyrics. But for me it just doesn't work. Besides the vocals on this particular track are a bit weak as well … any comment on this?

The lyrics are done by Sandro, he's a great Charles - may God give him Whiskey - Bukowski freak. At first when I read them, I thought of an old man, but for me it wasn't funny, more tragic and sad, a little sarcastic story about you and me. The weakness of the voice was because this was the last track Sandro did, it was our third or fourth attempt, and his voice was gone. We couldn't do another take anymore so this is the way it ended on the tape.

You describe Dreaming as an Old School Doom Band, one band which really comes to mind is of course Saint Vitus. Especially the whole (guitar) sound is very alike them …

What can I say, we all like Vitus, The first song we did was "Born Too Late". Vitus are gods! Just a couple of riffs and master Chandler's magic, it is so minimalistic, yet so strong. I prefer Wino on vocals but I am happy about Scotts return, unfortunately he was ill the day they were Supposed to play near our hometown.

Guitarist Sandro is also involved in a band called Subversion and it seems like Dreaming is more of a hobby band to him, or am I wrong?

No, you're right, Subversion is his main band. Their sound is hard to describe, maybe a mix of band like Crowbar, Kyuss, Type O Negative and a bit of Neurosis. It's hard, brutal and particulary cold. They become better every day. Dreaming is more of a hobby, so f we don't have any new ideas it's not really a problem. I think music should be done this way, you don't always have to think about its structure, it must come from the heart. By the way, the bass player and the drummer from Subversion are together with me and a guitarist in a cover band called Silver Machine. Sandro sings two or three songs there too.

You guys are from ex-Eastern Germany. Has the disappearance of the famous wall affected your daily life in any special way? I guess so, but did it also have an effect on the musical environment?

The fall of the wall has changed our lives in both, good and bad ways. On one side, we can go to any country we choose, we can buy all the records we want, etc. … The materialistic way has improved, but the relationship between the people has become a lot colder than before. Before the disappearance of the wall, there were a lot of concerts with cover bands. They played almost every weekend. Sometime we went from town to town to see them. It may sound funny to you, but it was more like a 60`s feeling, there were a lot of Hippies. It was great, if you had no money, no problem. There was always some freak around that would give you a beer. Most of this bands played Blues, Blues Rock or older Hard Rock. We usually traded records back then. It was like " I´ve got "Black Sabbath - Volume IV", do you want to trade "Genesis` - Foxtrot" for it". So after a while one guy had the complete Sabbath collection and someone else had everything by Genesis, if you know what I mean. Now it`s no longer like a big family, now you`ve got Thrash, Doom, Hardcore … all with a bigger offer, but with less people. There are only three or four places where it`s still like in the G.D.R. days, Blues freak, Rock freaks, Punks and Darkwave people, all in there together. Don`t misunderstand me, I don`t want the G.D.R. back, I`m really happy that I can now see each band I want and everything, but it makes me sick when I see the blindness between the several music styles, especially in the Metal section. Maybe I`m just a Hippie in mind … ?

It seems like you haven`t been able to do that many gigs yet, is it that hard to do any in your area? What can you tell me about the ones that you did?

I think that most people who did see us liked our sound, but the main part of the audience were friends of ours, except for one concert outside of Zschopau were only 50 people turned up, but a while later, one of them wrote me telling me how he liked us, that was really great. I would like it if we were to have more gigs, but Doom is too special for a lot people so promoters have to take risks booking Doom bands, after all 50 to 100 people aren`t exactly large masses. The only way I se to improve it is what I said in the previous answer.

You guys seem to have a strange fascination with candles …

Yeah, what`s with those candles? They have a warm light, they`re hot, romantic. They remind us of times with Dragons, Knights and sweet Virgins. If you smoke a candle in the right way, with all your heart, you can see and feel things you`ve never seen before. It`s like a trip inside your dreams. Hail to the mighty candle !?!

??? Okay … Well, tell me, when do you think we can expect a new demo from you guys? Have you already started work on any new songs?

At the moment we have only got two new songs, but we are working on some more. We didn`t have too much lately with the holidays and the Open Air Shows and everything, it was like a summer break. We`ve also got some new lyrics which deal with the return of the giant candlesmoker, religions, etc. … I guess the new songs will be in the same style, perhaps with a bit of Blues in them … Okay then, if there is anything you want to ad to all of this, any message you like to spread … To all non-conformists who read this mag, stand together, open your minds, tolerance is the key to peace and understanding. We should especially stand as one against the normal world. Doom heads, go to Blues concerts, Doom and Blues are the same thing, but in a different way! And we all say thanks to you for this interview!

And how about merchandising? Tell us what you have for sale …

You can order the "Smirten Prøben" demo for $ 6 or 10 DM in Europe, or $ 7 outside of Europe. You can also order green or dark-blue shirts with the Dreaming logo for $ 18. Sorry about the high price, but the German postage rates are really expensive. If you are interested in our drummer's underwear, I can ask him about it …

Thanks, but no thanks … like I said at the start of this interview, the Demos sound may not be that good and everything but it`s still a worthy asset to anyone's collection. I`m sure that with a bit more work on the production and lyrics - that candle stuff is now already getting a bit silly guys! - The next Demo could be quite a surprise!

Psychedelic Fanzine #1

Could you please tell us the name of the members of Dreaming and explain us the meaning of the name of the band.

Dreaming are: Sandro on guitar, Thomas on drums and me, Thomas on bass. The vocals takes mostly Sandro over. I only sing on 2-3 tracks.
We took the name from the song "Into Darkness" played by Winter, where they whispered "Dreaming Eyes". For a while time we had a consideration to call the band "Through The Dust" (another line of a Winter song).

Some music magazines wrote about your first tape entitled "Smirten Prøben", that it is resembling to St. Vitus, but it has his own psychedelic components. Do you think St. vitus was your nearly inspiration ?

In any case, but I would say St. Vitus was not the only band who inspirited Dreaming. Some other influences were: Cream and old Black Sabbath. Thomas, our drummer for example likes to listen very often to Progressive Rock like Genesis (old), Jadis or Kansas.

So far I know, Sandro has an other project too: Subversion. What does an invited Doom fan have to know about this band ?

Sandros main band is called Subversion and plays New Orleans Doom Core. In this way their style couldn`t be better. They released two demos and a promo until now and they recorded a 7` with three new songs. They are live extremely worth seeing, so support them!

What is your opinion about the unemployment in Germany ? Do you work besides playing music?

The only disadvantage of unemployment is that you havn`t got enough money, but I find it very pleasant to have enough sleep and not to have a curfew. Nowdays I work as a carpenter in restaurants, Sandro makes his final exam and Thomas is a mechanical engineer.

What do you do in your free time ?

Sandro rehearses regulary five times and me twice a week. On the weekends we go to concerts or partys and to pubs. During the week I usually go out with Thomas for a beer. Sandro can not come so often, because he lives outside of Zschopau. Nowdays our club "Motor City League Of Sound e.V." works to equip a studio and organize some concerts.

What kind of music do you like ?

As I mentioned the band members listen to very different kinds of music. Thomas likes besides Progressive Rock a few female singers like Tori Amos, Sandro is a big Hendrix freak and my personal faves are St. Vitus, Venom and Judas Priest. I can list now thousands of good bands such as Trouble, Frank Zappa, The Black Crowes, Guru Guru, all the bands your magazine features, all good Doom, Entombed, Neurosis …

Do exist other Doom/ Stoner Bands near Chemnitz ?

I am sorry to say: No, but if we see how many bands in the world or in Germany play this style of music it is not surprising. There is a band in our town with a big Kyuss influence. But this is just a young band and they need more practice to be better.

Have you ever played outside of Germany ?

No, but we still hope to play in Switzerland, Michi from Windfall tries to organize a show there, but we havn`t succeeded in it yet. Fans, if somebody reads it, who has an offer, please write !

Do you know some Hungarian bands ?

Yes, I know Omega, Edda, Pokolgép, Sear Bliss and the mighty Tormentor.

What do you think of the broadcast "Metalla" by VIVA and in general of the visual musicbroadcast?

Well, I`m on the opinion that Markus K. is an incompetent leader of "Metalla". We can see sometimes good videos, but I do not find VIVA worth for checking out. The only music program I like is "Rockpalast", who broadcasts some good concerts of my favourite bands.

Near to your home town in Zwickau takes place every year the"With Full Force" festival. Did you visit the festival this year ? (1997) What were your favorite acts in `97 ?

Yes, I attend the "Full Force" every year. I went to see A.O.K., Entombed, Bolt Thrower, S.O.D. and Manowar. In general was the Open Air very good, we had a lot of drinks and fun.

Please give us an indication of what the future holds for Dreaming.

We want to release our double single, we are going to equip a studio. We also plan to organize an Open Air, but it is not 100% sure. Well, I think it is enough, many thanx for the interview.

Horrible Eyes

On a hot, sunny afternoon I entered my rusty car in order to meet thr Doom Metal outfit DREAMING in the motor cycle town Tschopau, a typical Saxonian dump near Chemnitz. I was quite late so I rushed down the highway trying to get the maximum out of thr Korean bastard I am usually driving. Sandro(S) awaited me at the sleepy market place & together we set off to Thomas Schulz (TS) flat Where we were awaited by an imense dose of intense Doom Metal. A few minutes later Thomas Becker (TB) , the 3rd Dreaming Member arrived & and after some chats with each other while drinking beer & coffee & (listening to some cool tunes - TS has a stunning collection!) we began with this relaxed interview.

I have to admit, I wasn`t very well prepared for the interview & also a bit exhausted from the devasting IMMOLATION/ DESTROYER 666 gig I had the night before but I think the result has become at least an enjoyable one.

The 1st question I have is a quite ordinary one: when did you start with DREAMING ?
It was back in `92 or `93, I think…
TS: Yeah, `93!

And was it always supposed to be a total Doom Metal outfit ?
S: Yes! Thomas Schulz & me, we had known us since quite a long time before we started the band. I just had begun to play guitar back then.

You also started SUBVERSION at this time, right ?
S: Yeah, right, wethought we could also do some Doom stuff. He was the "unemployed" drummer (Nodding his head in the direction of Thomas B.) …he just had time you know…
TS: …and the we started!

S: Well, what we played first… ?
TB: It was "Mindfood" & "Born Too Late", I think…

So you`ve been more a SAINT VITUS cover band in the beginning ?
S: No, we haven`t played live back then when we just had these songs. We just have played for ourselfes in our rehearsal room. We had to reduce our musical direction to a common denominator. When this had happened we wrote our 1st own songs … Hm, it was… Honestly, I don`t remember
TS: It was "Wartime"!
S: No another one but we throw it away. Once we had a 2nd guitarist at one single rehearsal but this guy had not even an own amp & and more the idea of something like "sophisticated" Doom…
The total difference to the music DREAMING stands for.
S: Yea, it didn`t work with him, but he was a nice person, though. So we carried on as a 3 piece & later we had the 1st gigs.

What were your main influences beside BLACK SABBATH, SAINT VITUS & PENTAGRAM & such stuff ?
S: CREAM played always a very important role as we all 3 are totally dedicated to this band. You know, we`re also a trio with changing vocals. And I like to play a SG but with no Marshal amp…

A what?
S: A Gipson SG guitar like Eric Clapton had one. But I didn`t want to play like Clapton, of course.

Well, `94 the "Smirten Proeben" demo was released but the "TyVoloey" LP saw the light not before `99 - at least 5 years later! Why ?
TS: It`s just simply because we have no pressure!
TB: Hey, we`re a Doom Band - so we`re slow, hehe…
S: And our half-time is much bigger! After we had recorded the songs for the demo we had no new songs for a long time. Then; we just had 1 or 2 new songs, & that was our standart unti `96/`97. The demo was recorded in Mike`s (the SUBVERSION vocalist) old studio. [we recorded the demo at our rehearsal room - what`s wrong with your recorder Ronald?] We later helped him to fit out the new studio. That also took us a lot of time & 1 year passed. And later, when we had enough new songs we recorded our album there.

Something I always found strange were DREAMING`s demo & album titles … (TS & TB begin to giggle) I always wondered what it`s meaning (& if there`s any)!
TB: That`s something really important, haha!

I`ve heard it`s Hungarian…
TB: Not directly, no… the demo title "Smirten Proeben", I`veonce heard in the radio, means just`cucumber salad`, but that`s not right. There`s no real translation. For us it has no deeper meaning, just smirten proeben… I firstly read this in a comic of Eugen Egner. "Ty Voloey " is Czech.

And its meaning ?
TS: You asshole, haha! And tehnext album will be called "…" (I didn`t understand it, sorry! - R.) which means wanking or so… It`s Czech, hehe!

So you`re driving a not so ambitious lyrical direction ?
TS: It`s just fun, I would say.
TB: Yeah, we don`t have any `Furious`message. We don`t take us too seriously.

So it`s obviously superflous to ask you if there`s a deeper meaning behind the album cover, which is very intresting, I think. It just looks unusal in my eyes!
TB: The idea is based on a wood engraving of Franz Maserel. It comes from a circle, called "The Sun". It has a certain background…

Hm, it remembers me on this Icarus stuff…
TB: Hm, maybe in the broadest sense: It`s about an author who begins to dream to come up to the sun. His tries were successful but he`s been burned when he got too near to the sun.

From this point of view, I think, this fits the idea of the band moniker really well!
TS: Yeah, we too!

I mean, you are Dreaming & and maybe sometimes your dreams will be destroyed…

TB: We agree! You can see it in this way.

Did the band name had a certain meaning to you in the very beginning of DREAMING ?
S: Well, The name fit the music. It was introduced by Thomas Schulz. Somewhere in WINTER`s lyric there`s a line "…dreaming ice…" - from there we got our name. We got this band name very early, just before the band was founded.

How old have you been at that time, by the way ?
S: Hm, that can you calculate for yourself. I`m 26 now.
TS: I was 24 back then.

And how old are you now ?
TS: 31.

Really ?
TS: Thomas is even older…
TB: Yes, I`m 33!

What ? I thought you`re all in the age of 25 or so.
(They all laugh.)
TB: Thanks!
TS: It`s the alcohol - that keeps us `fresh`, hehe!

Well, I guess a jutting out characteristic of DREAMING is your voice, Sandro. It sounds really strange… I think you have improved your vocals since the demo days a lot. It creates a certain, somehow uncomfortable atmosphere. I know, it`s a stupid question when I ask what do you want to express.
S: I can`t answer this in this way. I had to take the vocals just because we had no Wino or Bobby Liebling, the same with Tomas. You know we`re sharing the vocal parts.

Have you done some of the vocals since the very beginning ?
TS: Yes.
S: I always sung the most lyrics. I didn`t spent time in my room thinking about `vocal strategies` , I simply began to sing & it worked out aftre a while. What you can hear very much on the demo is that I experimented a lot. And of cours my english pronuncation! Although I created some enthusiasm by an American who ordered our demo.
TS: He found his accent intresting, haha!

The latest song of DREAMING is the one on the sampler CD of the Hungarian Psychedelic Zine #8. When was it recorded exactly?
S: "Treadmill" was recorded December 2000. We sent it to Márk (the editor - R.) in January 2001.

This was the 1st thing you did after the album?

TS: No, the 1st stuff we did was recording a cover for a SAINT VITUS tribute sampler, "War Starter" .But this has been released until now. We have enouhgh time, we don`t have to hurry.
S: But the main problem at the moment is: I`m studying in Leipzig, the others are here in Zschopau. So DREAMING is more a weekend band currently. We play gig & rehearse when we have time.

And do you get the money back you spent in the band?

TB: …ehhh…
TS: No!
TB: The LP version of our debut album is a disaster: We sold only about 70 items since it`s out.

You did 200 LP`s?
TS: No, 312.

But what does the backcover of the LP say it`s limited to 200?
TS: Because I thought it would have been 200 LP`s. So we have a "gold edition" now. (All are laughing!) we sold the most LP`s in the States.

I remember , it was very cheap at the release party back in 1999. Only 15 DM!
TS: That was also a flop! People didn`t recognize the LP`s very especially cheap at the party. We sold only 5 & one demo!

I bought the demo …
TS: Oh … they are sold out now.

Regarding the live gigs, when did you have the first one?

TS: The first gig we had was at an Open Air in Euba.. We were quite crazy to play there. We were constantly asking the people "Do you know Dreaming ???".
TB: Well, and one said "Yeah, I have two LP`s from them at home!" Hehe, that was new to us.

There other bands called DREAMING?
TB: When I was in Scottland to visit a friend in Edinburgh, I saw a poster: "Dreaming-live in Edinburgh"! But that havn`t been us!

Have you ever played outside Germany?
TB: Yes, in Shwabia, hehe…
S: There once should have been a small tour trough Hungary together with MOOD. But, unfortunately, it didn`t work out. Now, we have the opportunity to play at the release party of MOOD`s new CD in Budapest, but there`s no real date fixed yet. Hopefully we`ll play there! But seriously we have never played outside Germany so far. We played in Saxonia, Bavaria & in Baden Würtemberg.

How many gigs have you done so far?
TS: About30 or 40.

Mostly in Zschopau`s Highpoint Club I think.
TS: No, there we played only 3 or 4 times.
TB: We played in the "Kniebreche".

Yeah, together with SLOUGH FEG & SOLSTICE!
S: We also played in Chemnitz` "Black Out", in Annaberg , etc …

Mostly with Doom Bands?
S: Yes, mostly when we`re arranging gigs in our area we try to get bands like MIRROR OF DECEPTION; JACK FROST OR VOODOOSHOCK. And they fix gigs for us in their areas. The next gig we`ll have is a thing in Zschopau, 16th June!

I think , DREAMING is a band which needs its time. The 1st times I had when listening to your stuff were quite hard ones. When I played the demo tape I thought "Fuck, what kind of strange vocals!" But after a while I got into it… The LP is good & the song on the Psychedelic CD is even better.
S: Hm, the sound of "Treadmill" is the best we had so far, although we did it in a hurry. I think, the next album will sound best. Surely we will record at Mike`s studio again. His knowledge has grown a lot & and he has also bought a lot of good equipment for recording stuff.

The album featured a cover version called "Mathilda Mother". I don`t know the original, so…

S: The original version is from PINK FLOYD`s 1st fulllength LP, "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn". The song is written bySid Barrett who played guitar on this album. He is a very outstanding character, very introverted, you know. He helped very much creating the bands` unique status but he had to quit the band after the 1st album. He had a lot of emotional problems back then. He also spent a while in a lunatic asylum. But well… I really like this album! When I heard the song I thought it would fit to DREAMING`s concept. Also the lyrics inspired me…

What is it about?
S:Generally it`s about childhood. That`s at least my interpretation. In every of the 3 verses the vocalist sings about childhood, but he narrates only fragments, impressions from certain fairytales, the perfume of his mother… well, I thought "Let`s try it!", so I asked the others (who agreed) & then we practiced this track in the rehearsal room. Everyone who heard the song so far thought it would have been a DREAMING song!

Although it differs a bit from your original sound, I just think of the keyboard there… or better say organ!
S: Yeah, you hear there an original John Lord organ- I want to notice this here!

Is it possible that you`ll integrate more of such stuff in the future?

S: That`s of course possible. This happens when we`re practicing, but it`s important that we can put it in a good way when we`re playing live.

Sandro, are you the only one who is responsible for the lyrics or all of you writing them?

S: We all writing them, would say. Everyone has written at least one text. The most were done by Thomas Becker.

Do they have an important character to you? There was one about a person called Ralf on the demo…
TS: Ralf…hehe.."A Happy Person"! It`s from you Sandro, isn`t it?
S: Yes, what to say, it`s just a satire on society.

It isn`t liked to a special person?
S: Not really. It`s about the `grey masses`. It`s very much influenced by Bukowski.
TB: Also "By A Hair`s Breadth" follows Bukowski very much…
S: Yes, "By A Hair`s Breadth" is a Bukowski text. It`s also written in the booklet. The lyrics to the song "Homage To An Empty Young Man" was written by a faded lover of mine. It`s more or less a homage to me personally.

Thomas, you`re joined the Psychedelic Mag, right?
TS: That`s right!

And since when?
TS: Since…eh…since issue 3 or 4. It just turned out. I once wrote a review for Márk. He had already done an interview with DREAMING for issue # 1. You know, we send him a demo back then & we were very happy that he had answered. You know, mostly you get nothing.

I know!!
TS: Well, me & Márk have written each othersince a while & that was just how it turned out.

So you`re the correspondent for Germany?
TS: Also Uwe Gröbel (VOODOOSHOCK) is writing for the mag. And Carsten Buchhold wrote a live review of theMMIRROR OF DECEPTION anniversary gig for the last issue.
S: When you know Márk & yyou`re in contact with a Doom Metal band he doesn`t say "no" when you offer him an interview or such stuff.

I think, this mag has worked out to an important base for Doom Metal.
TS: Yeah, I think so, too.

What I really appreciate is the somehow familiar character of the Doom scene. Everybody knows each other…
TS: Yeah, you`re right. You don`t get fucked here, that`s great!

This has no other Metal direction to offer.
S: Yeah, just remember the Death & Black Metal underground, I was involved in the late 80`s/ early 90`s. It really exploded! This never hasn`t happened to the Doom scene & I guess, that will never going to happen.
TS: It`s too special music. It`s nothing to be `cool`, you know.

Well, I personally feel cool, when hearing some heavy Doom stuff.

TS: It`s supposed to be for males! There are very few girls who are attracted by this music.

What`s important to say about the SAINT VITUS tribute sampler DREAMING will take part in?

S: It should have been released since a while but there were problems with the deadline. It was planned to short-termed, I think.
TS: We were the 5th band that send their cover version- that was shortly before the deadline. Most bands havn`t sent anything so far: There shall appear about 20 bands - on DCD format!

It isn`t sure when it will be released?
S: No, not really. The label Dream Fire Records ceased to exist. They now are called Raven Moon. It firstly should be released late winter 2000/2001, then spring & so on. We assume, it will be released, so…

What are you currently doing in the band?
TS: We will have a gig in Zschopau on 16th June, probably with VOODOOSHOCK. Although Uwe is quite busy at the moment.

Is there a new album planned?

S: Yes, I think so. We`ve written a few new songs. We don`t have fixed a specific time yet, but I guess in late autumn we`ll record it.

Again back to the 1st album: It had been recorded in `98 but was released more than 1 year later.

TS: We send our stuff to a lot of labels, I think 13 or 14, but got only 3 reactions -& no deal. So we had to finance the whole story ourselfes & release the album on our own label SlowFoxMusic.
S: We recorded the LP in summer 1998. We waited `til spring 1999 & then released it in September.
TS: We sold about 250 copies so far.
TB: It`s shitty, we got no distributors in Germany.

Please name some recommendably Doom albums you bought in the last time!
TS: Hehe… let`s turn to the walls (He turns to his LP/CD collection) I have the new PENANCE demo here.
S: But it`s already one year old.

Cool, I don`t have listened to it so far.
S: They have re-named the band yet.
TS: Hey, that`s not sure. I`ve written to the band, it`s still under the PENANCE moniker.
S: That`s better!
TS: Here I have a cool CD! (He proudly shows a limited compilation CD with DEATH ROW; BLACK MANTA etc.)

I got this DEATH ROW live LP on Game Two Records - that`s a great piece!
S: Of course I have to name the new SPIRIT CARAVAN. Everyone has to buy this killer!
TS: Not really new but neverless cool is the ETERNAL ELYSIUM album.

What else is recommendably?
TS: The new BEAVER will be out soon. And I have to name in any case ELECTRIC WIZARD and CHURCH OF MISERY.

The Japanese…
TS: Yes. Also INTERNAL VOID have to be mentioned. PAUL CHAIN has put out a MCD…
S: I can entrust the new IOMMI LP. Have you already heard it?

No.
S: The new BLACK SABBATH album shall be out recorded some time if you believe the press.
TS: DAWN OF WINTER will release a 3 song MLP soon.

I thought they have split up??
TS: No, hehe…

At least a question concerning to yout other bands, SUBVERSION; WEED IN THE HEAD (TS plays bass & does the vocals there) & SILVERMACHINE.
S: SUBVERSION had a break such as DREAMING. We did only hang up in our rehearsal room. But we`ve written a lot of new songs. There will be an EP released soon. It`s already recorded. Probabely a split CD with a Finnish band.

REVEREND BIZARRE?
S: No, I don`t have the name in mind yet. However, it will be released via Dare Devil. And then there will be some SUBVERSION gigs.
TB: Well, SILVERMACHINE don`exist anymore.
TS: There will be a WEED IN THE HEAD promo soon. It has been already recorded.

Last words?
TS: Last words???…pfffff…fuck…save the whales!
S: Thank you for the interview.

Ronald, May 2001
